Microneedling + PRP combines the benefits of two facial treatments that each on their own already have excellent cosmetic benefits. The procedure uses a microneedling device along with healthy platelet-rich plasma derived from your own blood. The PRP is topically applied to your face after microneedling, and any leftover plasma can also be injected into strategic areas of the face including skin folds, the tear troughs, and the cheeks. This injected plasma will turn into collagen over time.

Results of this treatment include the reduced appearance of scars, wrinkles, and flaws in the face, neck, or hands, and a healthy glow restored to the face. The treatment is minimally invasive and takes approximately 20 minutes to perform, giving results that can last up to 18 months.

Microneedling with PRP involves the use of a device with 30 oscillating needles that cause fine controlled micro-injuries in the surface of the facial skin to allow for better uptake and absorption of the patient’s own beneficial platelets (cells in the blood that help tissue grow new cells and heal) and fibrin (an insoluble protein essential to blood clotting).

Dr. Ataii at Laser Cliniqúe in San Diego is a skilled cosmetic physician who provides the most advanced techniques for laser and cosmetic surgical procedures. He performs microneedling PRP treatments for facial rejuvenation, hair loss, and rejuvenation of the skin of the neck, hands, and décolletage. At Laser Cliniqúe, looking young never gets old.

How Does PRP Work for Skin Rejuvenation?

In your microneedling PRP treatment, Dr. Ataii uses PRP created by your own body. A small amount of blood is drawn and placed in a sterile tube, which is spun in a centrifuge to separate the components of the blood. Red and white blood cells are separated from plasma – the clear fluid containing the platelets. This process produces plasma with a higher-than-normal concentration of platelets, which is known as platelet-rich plasma, or PRP.

After performing microneedling on the face, Dr. Ataii applies the PRP to the facial skin, and may also inject your own PRP into specific areas of the face. The platelets promote collagen production, help regenerate tissue, and act to naturally smooth and tighten the skin. PRP treatment can help to soften wrinkles and produce smoother skin tone and texture.

How PRP Treatment Differs from Dermal Filler Injections

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, such as Juvederm and Restylane, are composed of materials that can be used to fill in lines and skin folds. These treatments are often performed to soften deeper lines, such as nasal labial fold lines (vertical lines from the nose to the mouth), and for plumping the lips.

PRP treatment stimulates the growth of your own collagen, for rejuvenation of the entire face, rather than treating individual lines and wrinkles. This technique can be used to:

  • Add volume to a face that looks drawn or stressed
  • Soften hollows under the eyes
  • Plump unsightly indentations in the cheeks
  • Improve skin tone, texture, and tightness
  • Fill in areas where dermal fillers are not an appropriate treatment

PRP can be performed in combination with Juvederm and Restylane injections, and Botox can be done as soon as a week after a microneedling PRP treatment.

These two different types of treatments can be used in conjunction to create a more beautiful result, restoring a smoother, younger facial appearance. While dermal fillers soften certain lines and folds, PRP treatments improve the overall tightness, texture, and quality of the skin.

PRP Treatment

If you have dark circles and puffiness under the eyes, sagging or fine lines around the mouth, eyes, and cheeks, or a skin tone that is not as bright and firm as it used to be, you may be a candidate for microneedling with PRP for facial rejuvenation. PRP can also be used to rejuvenate the skin on the hands, neck, and décolletage, and to treat hair loss.
