Why choose microneedling?

While everyone’s skin will eventually experience the signs of aging, others issues are caused by environmental factors such as stress, poor diet, pollution, and excess amounts of sun exposure. In addition, as we become older, our skin begins to lose volume. This creates wrinkles and can make acne scars more apparent.

Microneedling in San Diego is an excellent option for anyone who is experiencing collagen reduction or a bothersome skin condition, or who is beginning to notice negative signs of aging. It is also a great alternative to dermal fillers for those who prefer a more natural treatment, as it has the ability to smooth the skin without substances.

Improve your skin with microneedling

A deeper understanding of our skin’s natural healing process has led to the development of microneedling, a highly popular, effective, non-surgical option for skin resurfacing. Microneedling kickstarts the body’s natural healing process to fill in scars and improve other skin conditions with brand-new collagen and elastin production.

What happens during a microneedling treatment?

While there are a few different types of microneedling devices, the procedure remains generally the same: a small, handheld device with a grouping of tiny needles is passed over the skin; the needles gently penetrate the surface of the skin, and tiny channels are created to trigger the body’s natural wound-healing process. This stimulates collagen production. At Laser Cliniqúe, we use the SkinPen by Bellus Medical as it is the best in its class.

The needles used in microneedling devices are tiny — micro, in fact — and only come in contact with the first few layers of skin.

A topical numbing cream will be applied to your skin before treatment, so you will likely experience little to no discomfort as the needles do their work, although some areas of your skin will be more sensitive than others.

A topical cream or vitamin-rich serum is often used along with microneedling because the tiny needles push the formula deeper into the skin, enhancing their beneficial properties.

Treatments typically take 30-45 minutes. Most patients see optimal results from 3-6 microneedling sessions, but for skin irregularities that are more severe, 6-8 sessions may be necessary. It’s important to wait 4-6 weeks between microneedling sessions in order to properly monitor progress and allow the skin to heal.

What is the recovery after Microneedling?

You’ll be able to return to your regular day following your microneedling in San Diego; however, your skin may feel warm and appear red or pinkish for 1-2 days, as though it were sunburned. Patients whose skin is very sensitive (or who are older) may experience these side effects for about a week.

Mild bruising and occasional spotty bleeding can also occur. Microneedling risks are rare and minimal but include minor flaking or dryness of the skin and, occasionally, small scabbing. In addition, patients with a history of cold sores may experience a flare-up after the treatment.

Microneedling results

The stimulated collagen and elastin production will begin immediately after receiving your treatment, and will continue over the next few weeks. This means that indentations from scars will gradually fill in, hyperpigmented areas will dissolve, and the surface of your skin will become more vitalized. You will love your smooth, bright complexion and your new youthful glow. Some patients will require a few treatments to achieve their desired results, and the longevity of those results will vary by person. The skin will still gradually age, but typically patients will retain their results for a few months. The treatments can then be repeated as necessary.

Microneedling FAQ

What is the best age to get microneedling?

We believe that beginning microneedling treatments in the mid to late 20s is a great idea for keeping your skin looking its best well into your later years. The treatment is completely natural, so there’s no concern about putting foreign substances into your body.

What about microneedling at home?

You may have seen some do-it-yourself microneedling devices available in beauty stores or online. As with any other cosmetic procedure, it’s highly recommended that you see a licensed professional for treatment. Even micro-injuries like the ones created with microneedling involve risks. Laser Cliniqúe is sterile and safe, and our trained staff will work with you to create an effective treatment plan designed especially for you and your specific skin. It’s best to forego at-home microneedling and put your skin in the hands of licensed, educated, and trained skincare professionals.
