What is Upneeq?

Upneeq is a prescription medication similar to Latisse that lifts the upper eyelids. It can be considered an “upper blepharoplasty in a bottle.” It is formulated with a vasoconstrictor that blocks blood flow and stimulates the eyelid muscles. Specifically, it triggers contractions in the Müller's muscle. By elevating the eyelid muscles 1-3 mm, Upneeq provides the eyes with a more open, awake look. The whites of the eyes are also refreshed, combating the appearance of fatigue. Only one drop per day is typically needed.

Is Upneeq safe?

The oxymetazoline hydrochloride used in Upneeq is a version of an ingredient used in nasal decongestants for years, so there is little risk of side effects or complications. In rare cases, patients may experience dryness, redness, or irritation after using Upneeq in San Diego.

What causes sagging eyelids?

Sometimes drooping eyelids are congenital, and sometimes they occur over time as a result of the aging process. Medical issues, genetics, and surgeries may also contribute to the appearance of sagging lids. Younger patients may acquire eyelid ptosis as a result of staring at screens every day. The levator eyelid muscle may atrophy and weaken, and eventually the upper lids cannot return to their normal position.

Are there any medical issues associated with drooping eyelids?

While up until this point, we have mostly been discussing the cosmetic implications of sagging eyelids, there may also be a functional issue of concern. Low-hanging eyelids can impair vision for certain patients, interfering with their quality of life. Upneeq is a breakthrough solution for both aesthetic and functional problems related to eyelid ptosis.

What are the benefits of Upneeq?

Upneeq provides many benefits for patients who would like to achieve more open, attractive eyes. Benefits include the following:

  • Improved self-esteem
  • Increased satisfaction with how you look
  • Can improve the function of the eyelids
  • Corrects vision impairment
  • Improves the facial expression
  • Creates a more youthful, awake look

Who is a good candidate?

Patients who suffer from mild eyelid ptosis may qualify for Upneeq so long as they are not currently taking certain medications listed by the doctor. For adults who are not ready to undergo blepharoplasty with anesthesia, incisions, and downtime, Upneeq may be an excellent temporary solution.

Who is not a good candidate for Upneeq?

Upneeq may not be right for patients with hypertension, heart disease, glaucoma, or immune disorders. If you suffer from chronic dryness in the eyes or mouth, the doctor may suggest an alternative. You will need to undergo a consultation with Dr. Ataii to make sure Upneeq in San Diego is right for you.
