Downtime and results
Like most dermal fillers, downtime after Restylane is minimal. We do recommend refraining from alcohol, exercise, heat, and sun exposure for 24 hours after treatment to help with recovery. Allergic reactions are extremely rare using hyaluronic acid-based fillers, but you may have some light redness, swelling, bruising, and/or tenderness in the treated area for up to one week, and in rare instances, the treated area may feel “full”. These are typically very mild and last no more than seven days when injected into nasolabial folds, and less than two weeks for lip injections. If you have a history of cold sores, an injection in the lip area could trigger an outbreak. Medication such as Valtrex (Valacyclovir) or Acyclovir can be taken prior to your injections and prescribed by your medical doctor. This will reduce your risk of a cold sore breakout. Restylane results last 6-12 months, depending on the specific patient. If needed, touch-up treatments are encouraged every 4-9 months to maintain results.
